Freedom Ranch Wild Horse & Burro Rehabilitation

...where horses can learn to be horses again...

The Su-Point horse story in Wyoming really touched my heart. The condition of these horses was horrendous. Between 55-60 of the horses died before any could be rescued. Starvation, lice & tick infestation and lack of water was a serious issue. Some of the horses died in transport while trying to be saved. Two of the studs came to Freedom Ranch in 2005. They were rehabilitated, gelded and brought back to good health.

Darby was 2 yrs old when he came to Freedom Ranch. He was covered with ticks & lice and was about 200 lbs underweight. He couldn't be gelded until he had gained at least 100 lbs.

These horses had never had any human contact or vet care, so had to be treated like wild horses and gentled before any care could be provided.

About half way between the size of a Shetland and a horse, these little guys are the perfect size for children.

Concho was an 8 yr old stud when he came to the ranch. He gained 200 lbs, was gelded and adopted to a family who loves him very much.

The Roses were not charged with any crimes, even though close to 60 horses died. They were down to 36 horses on the property last year & had signed an agreement with care stipulations, breeding control, worming and other vet care. Too little, too late for these little horses! We expect this issue to come up again in the near future.
